Christmas 2008
This year we decided to have all our guests help us celebrate Christmas 2008 at Pethaven. The tree was decorated, the lights turned on and sparkling.

We hung presents for all our furry friends and what a magical time they all had as they open there special surprises from Santa HoHoHo

Star of the show had to be our wee Pug who launched himself at the tree in a bid to gather all the gift bags hanging on the lower branches. Luckily we had some spares.

We wanted to bring a little bit of Christmas cheer to the households of those pets in our care over the festive season.  We sent all owners a Christmas photo of their loved pets.

The response we had from the owners was overwhelming as they enjoyed open emails on Christmas Day showing pictures of their beloved pets under the Christmas Tree.

South African 40 day Party
Foxie and Vagabonds mum and dad have been counting down the days and to celebrate this we decided to have a Party!!!

We had a Liver bread baking competition and after the taste test thought it only fair to award everyone equal first.

Liver Bread (Ruth Schumann)
1 egg
1 banana
1 tub of chicken liver (250 gms)
1 cup flour

Throw everything in a food processor and mix until semi smooth.

Bake in a flat greased tin at 180 for 20min approx.

Thank you very much for the special day you afforded us. The 3 of us really appreciate your time, effort and company.
It seems like just the other day when we started the process, the anxiety of what lies ahead, how he will handle it being a protective South African child, staying outside in a kennel compared to his couch and duvet in the living room. Yes we had lots of questions and concerns, not even to mention the flights and handlers at the airports, what if customs find something wrong?! Typical paranoid parents that believe their child is the most precious, exclusive and unique being that demands special treatment. Type

of: "Robyn when I move my left eyebrow, you must ask, I should jump how high Master Alexander?!!

Well he could not ask for a better team that looked after him. From the preparation team in South Africa (Dr Francois Steenkamp, Onderstepoort, State Veterinary Dr Beke Maposa, Don and Sue Spooner from Kookaburra, Sean from Quantas in Johannesburg) to the airport staff in Sydney and Auckland.

We were really blessed to have the most loving and caring team taking care of Alexander.

We thank you for being such passionate people and loving our children - it is a rarity to find people to love animals this much. Looking at the media it seems to be a sic society of cruel abuse, neglect and ill-treatment of animals that provides pleasure to some individuals. Maybe the courts should punish these people by letting them work at animal shelters and places like Pethaven where they can see what we all have to endure to be together again.

Really from the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU for looking after Alexander as if he is one of your own.

Kind regards
Hans & Elna van Rooyen
